Tides of Time

Will shameful desires be found in the specters of remorse?
Is the boundary which we share just a memory from the past
In bending heart and soul, will moments expand so dreams will last?
As we seek the flowing streams along this rugged course

A Rose by a rambling brook
In the early misty morn
Brings the sharpness of a daunting look
From a face so weathered and worn

Like the many straining shadows, to dash this urge of mine?
Our roving eyes come to meet, across a crowded room
Bringing back forgotten thoughts, as memories begin to pine
Of the love we once enjoyed as the past begins to loom

Wishing reverting passion would slowly commence to stray
Trying to hide the feelings, I stare another way
You with your husband, me with my wife
Slowly turning towards each other, we smile to cover the strife

Concealing the sultry feelings we shared so long ago
I whisper to my beloved, it's best we do take leave
Wondering as the door is closed could she possibly know
Not a word was as we drove home thru the rustling leaves

But deep inside I know she knows the carnal truth
Of the tryst, I tried to hide amid the tides of time

If

If a portrait of my dreams could be painted
Upon the shadows of your thoughts
What colors would yours eyes reflect?
Within the shelter of my heart

If a token of my love could embrace
The beauty of your soul
How long would time let us entwine?
As we sail towards the stars, beyond the Milky Way

If I could hold you close to me
As the storms of fears appear
What calm would be exposed
As we shed the sadden tears

From so many memories
Which clouds the sullen skies?
Our caressing touch would spark a light
To help us find the way

Towards eternal bliss arm in arm
We'll search towards a goal
An interlude to put a close
To all that ever been

As we dance into the canyons
Which holds serenity?
I'll peer within your shadows
To dreams of yesteryear

If only I were not so shy
What bliss would we create?
In our walk towards our fate
But alas it is too late

As I watch you drift away
Into the silence of the night

Warmth of Love

It's odd how the changing season
Brings an abruptness to the air
May brings the nesting birds and the warmth
To make plants grow

Makes one think that winter has left
But that's not how it fares
Living in Texas, spring is short-lived
Wishing it were slow

Having friends in England, I chat with saying
It's cold so awful frigid
I wonder how they would feel
If every day were 95 degrees and above

That's how it will be this week
The humidity just as rigid
Now the heat has come to roost
For this I have no love

My friends it's just going to get hotter and dryer
For sure that is no fun
I've seen in my lifetime in this Lone Star State
21 straight days of 100 and above

So to those of you who enjoy
The ups and downs of an English sun
Remember good old puddles, which in a matter of hours
Will see that rising star
Spreading the warmth of unrelenting love

Forgotten Secrets

Restrained amid the canyons of many sad regrets
Lie forgotten secrets I keep hidden within my wretches dreams
They come inside the darkness not trying to digress
Signals from the past dodging the nothingness between the schemes

They ride upon memories I'm not able to resist
Upon an ever widening cavern, I seek what is not there
Enlacing the passion much revered, I remember our last kiss
The mingle of fears in our final caress, tortures to hard to bear

Compressing my thoughts between the stars and the rising Moon above
Did I throw my heart to the wind, in my walk around your love
Now that time has riddled the ages, I ponder where I went wrong
Or is our destiny to pass as ships into the mist and fog

I'll wonder what awaits beyond the crest as the years begins to fade
Will it bring a close to the loneliness as the road begins to narrow
Do I dare wish the feeling of emptiness to remain within the shade
For tomorrow brings another day and the coldness from the sorrow

While the tears shed for past mistakes rules a heart so barren and cold
I'll have to live in the choice I made for now the time is late
This helps to decide my destiny in the ride towards my fate
In chosen a life without a partner conveys the hollowness of my soul

For in this void, I've come to rue

Ribbons of Pink Lace

33rd Wedding Anniversary Poem, for Evangeline
(04-24-76)

As the sun begins to set between the late evening dew
My eyes paint a portrait from the reflections of your face
Across the canvas of the sky with brush strokes of golden hues
I create sparkling rainbows holding ribbon of pink lace

To drape upon your loveliness, which I carry within my heart
As I smother you with kisses for you take my breath away
Each moment of our closeness will ensure we'll never part
In our voyage amid the struggles a reminder for us to pray

As the stars fade into the twilight
The sun will rise to show the way
Towards the passion of our solemn plight
Sheer beauty expounds in the words I say

For the total sum of commitment is needed in sharing this reality
On a path we follow together in search of eternal bliss
Entwining our lives as never before, we seek a true destiny
For in this trek towards forever, our love will never cease

A Father's Love

Dedicated: Those who have felt the shame and pain of child abuse

There is something in the air
I feel it in my bones
As I lie dying on this bed
Feeling empty so alone

I hear sounds from the sky
Not sure of what they are
How I wish for death to come
To release me from this lie

For all these many years
There's been a part of me
I've kept quite due to fears
So ashamed it made me feel

For hatred still embraces
The very fabric of my soul
It comes to me at night
In the horrors I must face

Never been one of faith
Lost it in my youth
Cannot believe a God
Would allow such abuse

To please my tearful wife
A reverend paid a visit
With a bible between his hands
Saying beyond death there's another life

He said the price to enter
Is to believe in God above
To accept his Son as our redeemer
That's all that must be done

So I took his words to savor
There must be something else
For I fear to die alone
I'll ask for a graceful favor

Remove the hatred I carry
Warm this heart so cold
Forgive my sinful ways
For my time begins to fold

I hear a movement in the air
An Angle is by my bed
Telling me Jesus sent him
As he reaches for my hands

He says do not fear
I've come to take you home
I'll guide you to a Father's love
Like you've never known before

Lone Star State

It rains not much in Texas
We're known for grander things
Among them is the heat
Which beats upon the plains

There are ranches big in acres
Longhorns grazing across barbwire
Atop the coastal dunes
Wild Mustangs still run free

In April come the Bluebonnets
Giving color to the highways
A sign of Spring's arrival
To take the chill away

Right now we're in a drought
How we pray for cloud filled moisture
To fill our lakes and close the cracks
Which marks the dusty and arid land

We've come to know as home
The farmers pray the hardest
Without rain no crops to harvest
Just dry brush fills the fields

Which feeds the fire's glow
It's great to live in Texas
Don't take me wrong my friends
I am proud to be a Texan

Would live no other place
I ask this one small favor
From my friends across the sea
When you say your prayers

Would you take a second or two
To remember your friend named puddles
Who's in need of a helping hand
In bringing the rains to flow

Upon this rainless mass
Which sustains so many souls
To end the drought that taken a grip
Upon this Lone Star State

Note of Tranquility

Dedicated: To those who suffer the anguish of Mental Illness

Have you ever thrown caution to the vestige of the wind
As you sleep within the emptiness that exists between the seams
From the stillness of the night I hear the currents begin to whine
As I walk along the shadows in the valley of my dreams

They beat a note of tranquility from a past forgotten land
In sounds profoundly surreal so alone and lost I feel
Engaging the swirling of the air I thread atop a wicked span
Balancing upon a rope called strife I seek to break this seal

For in the anguish I've acquired creates an empty base so cold
Trying to keep my sanity encased I drift to tearful sadness
From a disease known as mental illness a slow torture of the soul
Brings a rapture in the dark slowly creating fears of madness

I've learned it never mellow in the shelter of my mind
As I shift between the sane and the craziness of this world
In my wander to find a way I get bewildered without a sign
So I'll take my time in my stride to avoid the winds which swirl

Towards the sanctity of my compassion commences a gentle flow
So I'll accept with gladness what comes for me today
Traveling towards the brightness which surrounds me with a glow
Praying to my God each passing hour will bring relief this way

Mesenger of Love

Within the silence of the night I hear the messenger of love
Bringing forgotten longings within the lyrics of our songs
It sings of magical times across a rainbow high above
Reminding us of all that's passed on a road winding and long

So often from what we share, reflects the sum of our destiny
Quenching desires, enticing the thirst which feeds our very fate
A simple kiss, a loving look, melts the ice releasing the true reality
Flooding our hearts as never before creating that mystical gate

As we go on not letting the hurt or even the tears
Stop the love within our hearts from forgetting our yesterdays
We meet each hour as if our last amid the faceless fears
Accepting the good along with the worse, we forge for another way

To a place beyond forever gleaming like the stars
Across the endless skies which lie before our eyes
It's there for all to hear in the sounds of the musical bars
Singing the sweetness of the years caressing our eternal binds

Awakening from my dreams with a calling I shall pass
Between the covers of the sheets I reach for you my love
To whisper in your ear, the yearnings of the past
For the message I convey rides on the wings of dove

Boundaries

Boundaries

There lies in the boundaries of space and time
A substance which exits to define our very thoughts
Collimating in dreams, along with the hopes we seek to find
Turning what was lost from the pains sold and bought

As the sun arise erasing the fading stars, we face another day
A saving grace majestically increasing the total sum
Of our inner being this helps to light the way
Across this bridge we arrive, ready for the run

Avoiding the gaps, lying in wait to foil what we have done
Turning towards the flowing rainbows, which never seems to dim
We follow the waves of solitude we beat our hearts as one
As we turn towards each other our eyes cross in mystical whim

We discover the love between us, has ignited all over again
We act as once we did before, when youth was in control
But now there comes a different a total new beginning
For in the boundaries of this love, our joys will we console

What is It?

What is it?

That takes your breath away
In your wake to the morning light
That comes before all else
As the sun befalls the day

What is it?
That makes you feel surreal
In your trails and ordeals
As you go into the night
Not knowing of the plight

What is it?
That shows not lasting fear
In the middle of a crowd
With or without tears
Or in total solitude

What is it?
That carries you at times
When you're feeling oh so low
Thinking all is lost
You search until you find

The answer to your prayers
It lies before your eyes
It come without disguise
What is it?

Mortal Time

Between the shifting sand
Ticks the seconds of mortal time
Residing in the fringes of the land
In whispers atop the lonesome pine

It beats the sounds of forgotten memories
Slowly approaching, almost divine
Preaching the sanctity within the breeze
Drawing us closer to our deep design

If one listens very closely
To the melodies in our grieves
It sings of being lonely
As autumn befalls the leaves

Like droplets in an hourglass
Slowly flowing grain by grain
Much as life without a pass
Brings the tears which holds the pain

The Legacy

Have you ever wondered about the legacy?
Your written words will leave behind
For those gifted with prose who write so graciously
Ideas are formed within the heart to stimulate the mind

Like an artist who paints, a cantor who sings
A player of musical notes resounding with magical chimes
Brings a sparkle of delight much as regal kings
Convey to their kingdoms with rhyme

Much can be said of the gifts received
Dispensed at the moment of life
Molded with love so well conceived
Upon the traveled byways paved in the ways of strife

Not all will realize the treasures held within the soul
Some will end the trip, without utilizing their gifts
While others will leave lasting memories so fruitful and bold
To those who'll share the essence in this wayward drift

I say it's been an honor to read and hear your starlit dreams
For you convey within your thoughts the way it ought to be
The words you leave behind will light the dark between the seams
Imparting everlasting marks engraved for all to read, hear and believe

Voyage of Love

In the voyage of love amid a sea of near calm
There echoes a melody we have long to be near
It comes inside the dew, within the twilight of time
Sounds from a love bird which sings without fear

It whispers of friendship you have given to me
For all the years shared united as one
In hard times more often then not, we had to agree
To settle our differences much work without fun

Nevertheless, thru it all we have come to belong
Sharing in life as a good husband and wife
As we reach the end of our journey we hear the sweet songs
From the heavenly birds which bring the sweetness of life

Look ahead my soul mate no tears will be cried
For the best is not over in our search for the end
Prepare to debark we will say no good-byes
For the quest in this journey, lies without sin

Restless Blight

Do storms come our way?
As we drift into the night?
In search of hope to fill the day
To ignite this restless blight

Could changing minds, bring anxiety
That tends to make us fight
Upon our canvases we paint calamity
Which points towards this fright?

Will time forestall our sacred means?
Can love invade our rigid hearts?
To live and learn despite the lean
We share together what we impart

Not all is lost within our dreams
As we try so hard to hold back the sneers
It is plain to see, just look around between the seams
You will view a world much engulfed with fears

Caused by actions of distrust
By leaders with cryptic minds
Filtered by decaying rust, many not even caring
If their grief brings flows of tears

Amongst the sanctity of our tomorrows
Lines the clouds which holds the calm
Exposing pathways of forgotten sorrows
Where lives the peace within our palms

Retirement

I have been wondering what has caused my recent fears
On leaving behind a working life which has become a measure of me
For the better part of forty years, I've enjoyed more laughs then tears
It is the unknown winds, which stirs the clouds of doubt I'm unable to see

There is an air of uncertainty, deep within my soul
In my pace towards retirement in wait of the day, I am dreading to greet
Like nothing I have known before could I be getting old
Is age and retiring synonymous, when in the end they come to meet

It seems it was just yesterday I started down the road
With youth and vigor by my side I acted ever so bold
Speeding thru life haphazardly, not worried about the load
Until I met a women with one look she stopped me cold

With a lot of luck and common sense she became my loving wife
For thirty-three years she has been my fate, I wish for nothing more
When separation comes my way will changes abate my life?
A grand dilemma envelops me, for I know not what's in store

So I will ask for help from those of you, who has faced this very struggle
Hoping to find some answers to make a calm transition
For my wife deserves much better I wish to make no trouble
I always knew this day would come, I prayed without conditions

This is the ramblings of a man
Who is afraid of growing old?
For I remember so well the days
When I was young and bold

Popcorn

There's reasons why some poets
Can write the way they do
A few can pen words
Like pop corn popping over a hot griddle

While others will need time
As they search for rhyme beyond the stars
To be converged into a riddle
In the hunt for words to tune

There's envy in my thoughts
For the dreams which they compose
Some make it seem so easy
As they post their words of prose

To those of you who write this way
Like their is no tomorrow
I'll tip my hat to each of you
As I view with awe your power

So in the style, I've become accustomed too
Since I began to write
I'll try to unlock my mind
Which has become to rigid and tense

Hoping to find new ideas
I'll look towards the twinkling twilight
Praying to find what was lost
It lies around the bend, along the wooden fence

Colors

Dedicated: The many names upon the wall

There are colors in a rainbow
Every solider knows so well
The red, white and blue of the U.S. of A.
Which engraves a lasting hue

So often we forget
What the colors really mean
Just ask a battle scared veteran
Who has seen a field run red

With the living fearing dying
While the dead lay pale and white
They fight like no tomorrow
For a cause they hold so tight

To those who walk away
From the horror caused by war
Leaves a twisted drying feeling
Like a train wreck deep in hell

When finally the tour of duty
Comes to a justly end
They return not as heroes
As their Fathers did before

But as men who killed unjustly
For a cause so few believe
Older now and graying atop my balding head
Even after forty years the nightmares refuse to fade

I still remember the dying
They cry inside my dreams
I carried out my orders
Like a soldier suppose to do

While this Gyrene, remembers
The heroes left behind
With a prayer and a tear
I gaze towards that wall

Which holds the solemn names engraved
For the gallant troops who gave their all
So when that colored rainbow
Flows across the crimson sky

I'll pray it lighten
Up the gloom
Making the sky
Forever blue

Towards Oblivion

Arriving upon this mountain top, laying bare a joyous world
I gaze toward blue skies, above a blanket of white snow
Contemplating the struggles of my self inflected wombs
Breathing deeply I wonder about what lies beyond the shadows

Thinking how to survive on this road towards oblivion
I ponder of the path I'll take in the wake of life's embrace
A solitary mountaineer I've been half my life
Climbed so many mountains it would take one's breath away

Seen the majesty of God's labors from vistas no one would believe
I've prayed atop the highest peaks, for the help he gives for free
I've never felt more at peace, until the final crest is reached
This helps to heal the problems faced, from a place below my feet

So in the shorten time I spend upon this steeply rim
I'll confess my sins as I watch the sun slowly fade into the sea
From this contrast of snow and sky dictated the road I'll take
This helps me relate as I prepare for my descend

I've come to realize the ways of life are ours alone to make
So in these words you read my friends I give you this advice
No need to climb mountains to find your way in life
Just open up your soul, and purge your hurtful sins

For when you walk into his heart
You'll know just how I feel
Your life will never be the same
As you ascend towards his grace

Christmas Eve on p2s

Dedicated: Janet Hampson

I had a dream the other night
About poetry2share
I dreamt I was a member
With friends around the globe
It was the eve of Christmas
Not having much to do
Decided to surf the Internet
To share a thought or to
I clicked on my favorite
To see who might be browsing
I looked for fellow members
Who frequent this poetry site
No Claude from the west coast
Who offers such sound advice
No Delta Blue from Dallas
To show the ills of war
Not even rider 1951
What poems he can write
Much too my amazement
Only puddles was online
So I thought just wait awhile
Maybe someone from England
Will pop in to say hello
After all it's Christmas Eve
They can't be all at balls
Maybe Doreen will appear
To share her uplifting prose
Or John will bring another fine piece
From memories of his past
Could Mystic be not far behind
With bells to chime a song
Come on Alan, dock your boat
Bring some posts for us to read
A portrait of words
From a lady who paints
Would place my mind at ease
No Vic or even a Silverlining
To share this site with me
So I'll take this time to say
To the poets I failed to mention
Remember this is just a dream
I mean no disrespect
So I'll convey these words to you
Before I bid adieu
Merry Christmas to all
To all a good night
From this poet in Texas
Who's in love with this site

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
