Dreams & Wonders

Have you ever wanted to ride a shooting star?
Or travel beneath the sea, where no man has tread before

I for one have thought of this, and so much more
As I sit in my wheelchair, without my legs, which I lost in a far away war

So I'll ponder all the dreams and wonders which I'll never do
And try to accomplish in my attitude, all that I can be

I gave my service to the United States Army
In a duty performed with honor, from a land of desert and sun

Were we find ourselves involved in a war, so different from others we fought before
Engaging an enemy who shows no fear of death, even killing themselves

But in doing so, they take so many others, in the innocence of their youth
I can't help but think when it shall end, as the death toll mounts each day

I've often been asked, if the limbs I lost, worth the price I paid
The answer is clear and simple, for a soldier I chose to be

Many others will never be asked, their price of war was death
So their words remain silent, unspoken, but not forgotten, in the memories that's held for them

For myself I'll accept the cards, in the hand that was dealt by fate
And seek the wonders of my dreams, in the years God grants to me

I'll never regret in serving my country, an honor I'll always respect
And I'll pray for peace to invade the hearts, of those who lead this strife

To bring this ordeal to a final conclusion
And call our brave troops back home

The Starlit Sky

Dedicated To: Tommy Riddle

As I gaze towards the starlit sky
In the autumn of my years

I view the many painted stars
Like the patterns in my life

Some twinkle brightly others dimly
As the moon begins its rise

So I'll contemplate and meditate
What passes between the sighs?

And try to calm the fears I have
Of what lies on the other side

I've done so many wrongful deeds
And never battered an eye

But now as I approach a road
Which leads to a final end?

I recall all the harm I've done
To the very ones I love

So I'll try to mend the hurt
And ease the pain I've caused

If only I could be forgiven
Is it too late for me?

I ask dear God, in the prayers
Which resides within my heart?

To give me strength, to face my fate
And accept what comes to me

For those I've wronged along the way
I'll plead, they'll grant me mercy

I'll ask for their forgiveness
But most of all, I'll ask for grace

To caress my very soul
For when the stars glow with brightness

And I'll know, I've reached my end
Peace will descend upon my being

As you reach to touch my face

Sands of Time

Interwoven between the rapture
Of the desert, I call life

Lies the loneliness deep within me
Of the love which has been lost

As I walk upon the sands of time
In the visions which appear to me

I search to find your presence
But a void was what I found

Each night that comes, I think of you
Wondering when it shall end

So I'll dwell upon the dreams we've shared
In the life we once embraced

And I'll let each memory, caress my soul
As I reach to kiss your lips

While the sweetness of your every breathe
Wakes me to the dawn
