Texas Teddy Bear

There lies inside this Texas frame
A mind that loves to play
Within my thoughts it’s mostly jest
In all that I convey

Never one to shy away
From all that I do say
Bringing laughs, maybe a smile
Becomes me that’s my style

At times do tend to get carried away
Going a bit too far
Others may think my thoughts are frayed
Deserving to be barred

No disrespect will be marred
In the forum few participate
Meaning no harm in what is sparred
In the games Alan create

For I’m a big Texas Teddy Bear
A push over you might say
One who’ll never take a dare?
Or ever asked for a raise in pay

The lessons in life I’ve come to see
Noticed by family and valued peers
For age has finally caught up with me
Changing my rhymes to tearful jeers

If by chance I skip a dance
Slowing down a little bit
My fears may make me prance
Maybe it’s best I sit

Deep down within this Texas heart
Beats a goodness true and blue
I’ll share all I can before I part
Into the madness of the dew

Mr. Lucky & Miss Norma

For Norma, a nurse I tease to no end

Look out Mr. Lucky watch out where you’re going
Stop scaring me do you know what you’re doing
Getting tired of all this roaming and moving
It’s time to settle down and start a life of honest loving

I’m tired and fed up with being treated like a dog
You act towards me as if I’m a dumb clog
We’ve been shacking up for nearly two years
It’s time to put a ring on my paw, no reason to fear

I want to have a family, a couple of puppies will do
All the birth control pills have been thrown down the loo
So beware when you want to get close and be near
Buy a gold ring, and I’ll treat you so special and dear

The time for free loving has gone out the door
Miss Norma wants a husband, could care less if we’re poor
So now you know how I have come to feel
You want to sleep with me tonight a ring will seal the deal

Grains of Sand

I feel the falling grains of sand
Will bring an end that’s near
I see the time is close at hand
Just moments left I fear

Feelings I have learned to hide
From those who I are my kin
Causing hurt to those I’ve sinned
From one who’s filled with pride?

I fear that I have seen the last
Of memories from the past
The canyons of lost happiness
Contain a barren hollowness

A life of dread I have concealed
From those with broken hearts
I asked dear God as I kneel
To make this hurt depart

I trust in Jesus name I pray
Light the dark within this cave
Heal the pains from the past
Forgive the sins I have cast

Through your Son I asked forgiveness
Within his eyes resides the brightness
From his touch is felt your grace
The tears he shed embrace my face

Now the hour glass has drained
No grains of sand will flow
Inside a soul once filled with pain
Now binds a heart that glows

Runaways

Now it’s time to leave I fear, I am a runaway
I’ve packed my case, with my Teddy I’m ready to fade away
Into the English countryside
We’ll seek a place to hide

We’ll find a spot set the rules, and break them if we choose
After all what else is there to loose?
We’re brave me and my Teddy no one to tell us what to do
If only Mum and Dad would know the outdoors is my loo

But now the day has grown so short, the light begins to dim
We’re in the middle of a forest we need to find a limb
Big enough to hold us both above the ground that’s cold
I’m beginning to think we made a mistake in acting ever bold

I hear the sounds of the forest they seem to be all around
What chance has we to stand our ground if lucky we’ll be found
Who would think the woodlands would get so dark and scary
How I wish we were in our room under the covers well buried

Golden Crescent

The day will come when Mother Nature will face the test of time
It seems the hour has arrived carrying a hurt that blinds the mind
It preys atop the ocean waves, spreading its evil webs
The blacken ooze coats the sea beneath in silence flows the ebbs

For beauty once adorned this golden crescent known as the Gulf of Mexico
It’s tarnished to the point of no return as the wind emits sad echoes
What once we took as so pristine unmarked by human hands
Now is marred by greedy excuses black tides will mark our precious sands

Is it too late to change our fate can we control our destiny
Are we to witness an ocean’s demise before our very eyes?
Every day this well remains uncapped brings death a little closer
Time is slowly running out our Gulf Coast needs a closure

If by the grace of God we’re able to stop the flow of oil
Years will be needed to clean our shores to again become unspoiled
Not to mention the loss of life atop the shoreline beneath the ocean
Even know the cessations of life stirs lively commotions

From those who live along the coast, making a honest living
They will suffer untold damage from their lively way of giving
Caused soulfully by man’s stupidity in drilling so terribly deep
Now Mother Nature will decide when to stop the tears she weeps

Vanishing Bees

(Camellias from Norma’s backyard)

I am a flower in Norma’s garden
If only the bees would beg my pardon
They steal from me my golden harvest
Then they buzz into the forest

I remember when they were many
Now you hardly see any
What’s causing this disappearance?
For they're magnificence in their appearance

I fear there is something amidst
The bees have gone their is no bless
Is Mother Nature at a lost?
For the bees are needed at all cost

They take the nectar I impart
Spreading it around as they dart
The shame will be when they're no longer here
In defiance spring time will jeer

When the bees vanish one less will share
The nectar of life I give with care
But time moves on, and so will I
Mother Nature will see that I survive

Oozy Black

In the gibes we employ
Contain the glib we enjoy
In our tease to no end
To bring a smile or a grin

We spoke fun in our jest
In this spar of social unrest
Caressing a calm ever pleading
To a world sadly bleeding

Times of fun seems misgiving, even lost
Bringing heartaches at great cost
To the aftermath of misguided care
From this globe we all do share

Wouldn't it be nice if we could change
Towards a highway with super lanes
Keeping us on the straight and narrows
Without the pains from flying arrows

Such life would bring laughter back
Tears would dry our cries would lack
The Gulf of Mexico would be intact
but life and greed has become the fact

In this sordid mess of oozy black
Above, beneath the sea that's tracked
Lies God's critters his gift to all
Slowly dying has we no gall

Author's Note

As I type this poem on my computer, the TV is showing
the damage done to God's creatures due too our
greed and stupidity. May God forgive us for our sins?
Speaking as an American so ashamed of this travesty

Inner Shell

To touch our lips with a kiss
Brings a feeling of total bliss
Sweetness felt between the sheets
As the morn arrives a new day we great

But not before passion uncurls
We take our time in love we swirl
We merged our bodies into one
Matching the rhythms of the rising sun

Lurching together, we shudder, explode
Falling back into a slumbering mode
Regaining our strength from intimates of love
Preparing ourselves we coo like flying doves

Awakening to feelings we hope will last
Due to the destiny of the past
Regales the reality of this glorious union
Dedicated to the powers so unassuming

We surge towards the winding bend
Together united we begin to blend
Into a form that will shape our end
Coming together we gather to mend

Lustful desires amid a burning flame
Continued thru the years the flicker remains
I feel as if I've grown into
The inner shell that belongs to you

Sordid Lies

(A last grasp at togetherness)

What lurks inside a breathless thought?
Aroused by regrets so keenly sought?
Of love we've shared but somehow lost
The pain so conjures a priceless coast

If only the feelings we once did save
Return to us like the waves which crave
That special mood we nurtured and paved
Reflections of thoughts now ever so grave

Desires of love I wished returned
I know you feel you've been spurned
I've acted totally unconcerned
Is our bridge forever burned?

Such feelings are worth another try
I see your tears I hear you cry
I feel you want to say goodbye
From the many sordid lies

So now the rest is up to you
My promise for you is to be true
Forgiveness comes with many hues
From shames inflicted reside the dues

In this last grasp at togetherness
I ask to put aside the bitterness
From the visions of my roving ways
Will you turn the dark to the light of day?

For I'm a frail and weakened man
Who's seen the errors of this sham?
I want so much to keep this bank
You placed so lovely upon my hand

Caring Friendship

Dedicated: Mystic Bluebell

In our walk upon this destiny that exists between two souls
Is heard a calling of sweet nature that is yet to unfold
It rings of caring friendship that has lasted thru the years
Bringing more often laughs, a few times it brought some tears

What makes this ever special is the gift we've come to share
A present from our Creator that shows how much he cares
Here lately you have written such words of golden hues
Like a rainbow from a gentle rain, that sweeps away the blues

How often have I wondered the world your eyes do see?
The beauty of your country which lies beyond the sea
To me it's like a rainbow arching above a mountain top
Conveying colors to my view in hope they'll never stop

I know it's not been easy on the road you both do walk
Hand in hand you stroll together in love you always talk
So hang in their my friend, you have many words to write
Hold on to your beloved I know he holds you tight

Soon it will be your birthday, you will turn another year
This presence in words I sent you is not to bring you tears
It's meant to make you happy, for we shared a common gift
Happy Birthday dearest Ursula, may my thoughts give you a lift

Games of Life

What makes a man renounce
A quite love so pronounced
Kept still in the hearts by shame
Sad visions lost in the flames

In the passing years I realize
Of what i thought I idolized
For youth will play such trickery
In making thoughts so bitterly

But age can be the healing tool
Which calms the reasons of silly fools?
Like the dawn that sparks the day
It comes with a price we pay

For now it's just the hours we gage
Along with images inside the page
I pick and choose the games to play
My dreams I manage to keep at bay

For growing old can be such fun
To those of us who greet the sun
Each morning brings a different challenge
The trick is keeping in total balance

Some of you may understand
What I hope will not be panned
For others time is needed
But in the end all is seeded

I've come to this conclusion
Life is not all illusions
We've dodged the many arrows
Upon a road that slowly narrows

So I will end this parody
With respect and true sincerity
My wish for you is to live to grow old
Enjoy the games of life endeavor to be bold

The Winds of Life

What are the reasons beholding sanctity?
Which turns the sea into tranquility?
Within the oceans of our souls
The winds of life are often bold

It comes to test our inner being
No discourse or smiles will be gleaming
For reality contains a naked starkness
Wrapped into a surreal darkness

We make the destiny of our voyage
Shaping the path towards the sage
In our trek from shameless games
Will the book of life contain our names?

The time to insure were we will be
Within the tides of the endless sea
Is in this cycle of painful remorse
In our sail we can change our course

Due to him who conquered all strife
Locked inside the gales of life
Lies a opening to a tranquil port
Ruled by the Master’s son and court

The Golden Years

For Evangeline
(34th Wedding Anniversary Poem)
(04/24/76)

Across the crimson tides of time
We walk along an ocean shore
Together hand in hand we chime
Marching towards where love is stored

This journey of many years began
When you became my loving wife
In faith and trust we’ve kept our vows
Upon this road of life and strife

Now we approach the golden years
The web of fears we leave behind
The coast is clear, no tears to shed
Along this water line

For in the supple sands beneath our feet
There’s felt the caressing flow of waves
From this total bliss we’ll entwine
Forever we shall rave

Endless Change

There is a raging sea, deep inside of me
With howling winds which blow consistently
Holding a steady course, having no choice I follow
In search of a calm quailing the rage within the shadows

It lies beyond the realms of time
The bounds of destiny echoing thoughts of lost rhymes
Resounding atop the crest of ocean swells
I sail upon a ghastly ship spurred on by ship’s bells

They chime in the darkness beyond the mist and fog
Along with the taste of the sea spray which enthralls
My senses entranced by the waves that dance
Within this abyss of endless chance

I stand my ground surge towards the blatant starkness
That reveals who I am inside the cloud of doubtless jest
Unknown if this calling will be saintly
With hope this voyage ends gallantly

I’ll spin what’s left of my remaining days
Hoping I’ll fall into the shade
Which holds what I so often prayed?
A bay of containment, where I’ll be saved

Washed By the Blood

If God's grace lies within his eye's
Does it also abide in the gracious sky?
Which adorns the essence of aimless time?
Reverberating memories played in spiritual chimes

Creating moonlit shadows, in a heavenly song, amid endless stars
Which adorns the horizon, as the sun lights the dawn
Signs of wonder to behold, sung by Angels in gossamer wings
A precious gift to all who believe in his son and the word he brings

God gave his only son in death to save us from our dreadful sins
On that cross he paid the price in his last breath his lips did sing
Father please forgive those souls who know not the ways
By my mortality and resurrection grant them a saving say

A freedom of choice by him was paid
He leaves it up to us to choose the way
Beyond the darkness lies heavenly light
We need only to reach it's within sight

The home the Father made for us paid by the suffering of his son
Endures forever to those who plead to hear his song
For in the forgiveness of sins so tearfully shed
Lies cleansed, soaked by the blood, Christ Jesus bled

The Texas Blue Bonnet (State Flower of Texas)

In the early days of March in the swirls of the cold north winds
Comes a spark beneath the earth lying dormant from a drought
Energized by warming sunlight charging from a northern spin
Cascading of the Rocky Mountains the sting of cold weaken by its route

Soon a stirring in the ground will make a bloom so rich and blue
Eager to show its glowing growth it breaks the sod with buds that sprout
Into a flower called the Blue Bonnet growing wild along the fields
Painting landscapes with hues of blue matching the sky in the morning dew

A reminder that winter will soon take leave, for spring is on the way
It comes with rains along with storms creating a makeover ever so pleasing
The Texas Blue Bonnet plants itself glittering in the sun rays
For eight weeks it will sparkle and bloom, then seeding concludes the season

Once the seeds enters the ground ensures the future of this flower so proud
The beauty it brings just last awhile but the memories last the year long
Until the next crop comes alive breaking the soil in its rush to please the crowd
Wild flowers lauds the change of a season, for in the twilight between the morning fog

One can hear the State Flower of Texas sing a springtime song

Unfilled & Unforgiving

A fragile heart is never meant to be turned, ripped and broken
But so often what reflects from fading love we speak of very softly
The years that build this sacred trust at time will be cut short
By failures from the tainted bliss corrupted by our choice

We walk a line so ever fine only noticed when theire's a problem
It's up to us to work it thru, to straighten the pains and sorrows
At moments we're able to pull together, reaching a mutual desire
Other times we pull apart leaving painted promises to expire

What sort of voyage would be taken upon an ocean so mired?
Could togetherness form a cause to keep this hip from floundering?
Or would our drift upon this sea, leave a feeling lonely, dry and barren
A question one should seriously ponder before our sun does set

As we sail forwards seeking a new destiny
Searching the abyss for a different reality
The best will be if we can find that quiet calm
Releasing the torrents of love's abuse

For once the line of no return has been sadly crossed
We lose all the memories of what was and will never be
Sins we cannot escape from seems to flow very swiftly
Beneath the currents thrives our dreams unfilled and unforgiving

Enticing Sins

Within the deepest pit of night
There lies what I conceal so tight
A part I try to keep untouched
In wait for the moment to be retouched

The feel of memories sadden still
By those departed with hearts so filled
With time captured by the hour glass
The sands in rapture form the past

A never ending collage of what might have been?
Parade inside the distance dreams which beam
Of ever flowing fears cascading into tears
Creating fading sorrows sown thru the years

Forming on a road with curbs which narrows
Enticing the sins which sting like arrows?
I continue to forge towards a goal unknown
Praying my soul is set free from the loams

Which surrounds the very essence of me?
As I approach the end, I'll look for the key
Seeking sinless strife, which comes in the light?
Thus opening the door to a much better life?

Everlasting it glows if one opens the heart
For tears of forgiveness will forever impart?
To receive these gifts reach out towards the hands
Extending from Heaven upon golden sands

Edge of Never

I've yet to reach the edge of never
In my trek thru life's endeavor
I've yet to find all I seek
From a world in no way is meek

Alas I shall not give up
I'll strive to find this loving cup
Which holds the grace we surely need?
To face the strife within our deeds

It's this goodness we wish to find
To make us kind, which fills our minds?
Floating amidst this eternal bliss
Will steady our ship so not to list

We've learned we are the givers
In our search to find the keepers
Imparting thoughts we hope will soothe
Th lonely and lost along this cruise

I'll continue to seek my final port
Praying my thoughts will not be curt
Beyond this abyss lies the bay
Where tranquil waves, have their say

Reality

Embroiled within a soothing balm
Into an ocean that once was calm
I seek a long lasting remedy
In my sail towards destiny

Unsure of what the waves will bring
I search for cresting swells which sing
The spiritual songs of serenity
From these lyrics replenish my sanity

Washing over the wooden planks
In it's drift to unknown rocky banks
It is this peace from within the sea
Which releases the pains inside of me?

The storms of life has driven this ship
Across the tides which seem to leap
Beyond a course of no remorse
Holding steady I explore a new source

Within the realms of this foreign port
My ship lays anchor it's time to sort
Between the narrows lays my choice
For in this trek I've found rejoice
